July 15, 2016 – “On behalf of President Obama and the people of the United States of America, it is my great honor to offer best wishes and congratulations to His Majesty, the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Negara Brunei Darussalam, on the occasion of His Majesty’s seventieth birthday.
As the United States Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam, it is an honor to work with His Majesty and the government of Brunei to continue to enhance the relationship between our two nations.
The United States is grateful for the mutually productive relationship we share with Brunei Darussalam, as together we strive for peace, stability, and economic prosperity in Southeast Asia and beyond.
During the U.S.-ASEAN Leaders Summit in Sunnylands, California earlier this year, President Obama was honored to work closely with His Majesty on issues affecting the region such as maritime security, the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade agreement, counter-terrorism and countering violent extremism, and wildlife trafficking. The United States applauds His Majesty for Brunei’s commitment to peaceful resolution of disputes and Brunei’s interest in increasing and strengthening understanding between our two countries. The United States is also grateful for His Majesty’s support for the U.S.-ASEAN Connect initiative, which was announced by President Obama during the Sunnylands Summit to strengthen the economic engagement of ASEAN nations with the United States.
On the occasion of His Majesty’s birthday, I would like to express my appreciation to His Majesty for his warm friendship towards the United States and wish him continued health and happiness on this joyous day.
Happy Birthday Your Majesty and Selamat Hari Jadi!”
