Sewing Machine Contest

U.S. Sewing Machine Contest

So there’s probably an old foot-powered sewing machine in your family or in your kampung. Do you know who first used and what they sewed? Who wore the clothing? Was it for the family or a business?

We are running a contest to collect these stories of one of the first U.S. products in Brunei.

Please ask your older family members about their memories of sewing machines from an American company (for example, Singer or Flying Man) and reply to our USEmbassyBSB Instagram contest post [link in Rules below]. Sending photos of your family’s machine is a nice addition but is not necessary (and is not part of the contest).

The 10 most interesting responses will receive a pair of historic sewing machine shirts for you and the person who told you the machine’s story, and a U.S. Embassy tote bag.

Note: Recording the conversation on audio or video is a good way to preserve family history.   Of course, please practice social distancing.
